Kenya Patton Law GroupThere are tens of thousands of laws on the books. There are over 20,000 laws governing guns! There are Federal laws, State laws, local laws, ordinances, and more. It would be impossible to put a number on how many laws there are in the United States.

That said, we can identify a few myths about the law. Here are 5 common legal myths:

  1. All laws are not necessarily written by legislators. Common law comes directly from court decisions and are often not found in our statutes in written form.
  2. Contracts do not necessarily have to be in writing. Oral contacts – in some cases – are definitely enforceable.
  3. You do not have the right to “one phone call” if arrested.Hence, read this article from Connecticut Bail Bonds Group to know your legal right.
  4. You cannot beat a breathalyzer. All the rumors and great ideas in the World won’t work. Don’t be legally drunk – that usually works.
  5. If you are the victim of a crime you DO NOT have the option to “press charges”. The prosecutor makes that decision.

There are so many more of these “myths” floating around – and they can vary significantly by state and even local jurisdictions. We will try to put out a few of these on a regular basis moving forward.
